Since the skin on the hands is incredibly thin and subject to the daily wear and tear of life, these areas are the first parts of the body to show the visual signs of aging. These signs can be reversed with hand rejuvenation treatments such as laser resurfacing, and filler injections.

What is Hand Rejuvenation?

Hand rejuvenation refers to a number of procedures that modify and improve the physical appearance of the hands. These procedures may correct blemishes and age spots, and eliminate lines and wrinkles. For hands that suffer from varicose veins and sagging skin, there are treatments for those as well.

Glanville, who is 40, decided to have cosmetic filler injections to improve the appearance of her hands.

Filler injections are composed mostly of synthetic fillers such as Juvéderm, Perlane and Radiesse, all of which mimic the action and characteristics of collagen. Fillers are so-named because they “fill up” depressions underneath the skin where the amount of collagen is diminished, thus resulting to an uplifted and younger look.

Laser Resurfacing For Hand Rejuvenation

Another common hand rejuvenation method is skin resurfacing. The procedure is usually done using a laser, specifically a CO2 fractional laser. This technique combines carbon dioxide lasers in order to stimulate the production of collagen. The results can be highly satisfactory, resulting in the elimination of fine lines and wrinkles.

Many patients prefer laser resurfacing because it offers fast results. Most patients undergo just one to two sessions. Some minor swelling and redness can occur but only last for the first two days, and the procedure itself has a short downtime.

Skin Tightening

Loose, sagging skin on the hands is not only difficult to hide and often require special treatment. Heat via radiofrequency (RF) technology is applied onto the layers of the skin nearest the surface to stimulate collagen production. The action results in the tightening of the skin and a more youthful appearance. The procedure is non-invasive and works remarkably well for improving the quality of the skin on the hands.

Sclerotherapy

Another popular hand rejuvenation technique is sclerotherapy. A special saline solution is injected into the varicose vein to prevent blood from returning to it and plumping it up. Once the sclerosant gets to work, visible veins disappear and skin appears smooth.
